Try It On | Blaze of Summer

My summer uniform consists of one key piece- my beloved putty colored boyfriend blazer. Worn over jeans, a mini dress, or even shorts, a casual blazer can polish any ensemble.

When it comes to wardrobe staples like a blazer, don't be afraid to spend a little more for a great tailored fit. This is an investment piece you'll wear time and time again. This season bypass plain old black and go for a cream or khaki color. Neutrals are right on-trend and will look ever so chic paired with light tones like white and blush.

For a look that's straight out of my personal style book, pair your boyfriend blazer with a simple white tank and shorts, and a neutral snakeskin heel. Let your accessories do the talking with a pretty blush bag and oversized lucite necklace.

Best Kept Secret | Dry Shampoo

There’s nothing worse than a bad hair day. They tend to creep up on you mid-week, when you just can’t fit another second into your day and the last thing you want to do is have a “washing-my-hair” night. Washing, drying and styling can be timely and tiring, especially for us long haired girls. Those are the days I thank the beauty gods for one of my best kept secrets—Dry Shampoo!

This magic shampoo-in-a-can needs no water and can liven up even the limpest of locks. Whether your hair is fine and suffers from a daily case of the greasies, you want to extend your salon blow out just one more day, or your bangs constantly fall flat, dry shampoo should be an essential part of your beauty arsenal.

A loyal (obsessive) user of dry shampoo for years now, my personal favorite is Psssst Unscented Instant Spray. At just $5.99, it's so cheap I stock pile it. Industry fave Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo ($11-$21) does a decent job if you're willing to shell out the extra cash; while TRESemme Fresh Start ($4.49) is disappointing to say the least, it acts more like a perfume than a cleanser.

Tip: Pick up a travel sized version to keep in your purse or car for touchups on the go!

Budget Babe | Casadei look for less

From the runways to the red carpet, platforms have been seen on the feet of the most stylish Hollywood divas all season long. The Casadei Triple-Platform Pump, worn by Kate Hudson at the Oscars and Sandra Bullock at the Golden Globes, is sky-high and oh so sexy— and retails for $620.

Thanks to Steve Madden, working girls can score this star style for under $100. The 'Caryssa' Pump is just as fierce as its designer counterpart, and with a price tag of $89, you'll still be able to buy yourself lunch. I just picked up a hard to find pair in chartreuse suede and can't wait to teeter around in them all summer long!

Beauty Buzz | Five minute face

Even if you have a love/hate relationship with makeup, you should never leave the house without putting a little on. My philosophy— always put your best face forward, because you never know who you're going to meet. (I mean, the man of your dreams or future boss could be in line next to you at Starbucks on the day you decide to leave the house looking like a hot mess and never notice you!)

Achieving a simple and pretty makeup look is well,
pretty simple. Take just five minutes each morning to look good, and you'll feel good, too.

From blah to beauty, in five minutes!
Forget foundation, try a tinted moisturizer like Physicians Formula Healthy Wear with SPF 50. This is my can't-live-without-it beauty product. It goes on light, gives great coverage, and protects your skin from harmful sun damage. Best of all, it's oil and paraben free and won't clog your pores.

For brighter eyes my secret weapon is the Benefit High Brow pencil. Meant as a brow highlighter, I take in one step further and use it in the inner corner of my eyes. By creating a small "V" shape, you'll get a fresh, wide awake look. Next polish the look off by curling your lashes and applying a coat of lengthening mascara. Though many makeup artists swear by fancy (expensive!) eyelash gadgets, I personally love my $3.99 Revlon Eyelash Curler.

Finish off your face with a girly flush, courtesy of Benfit Posietint. This perfect pink tint doubles as a cheek and lip stain. If you really want to shine, sweep a highlighter across your cheekbones for some extra radiance. I really love VS Makeup's limited-edition Cheek & Face Highlighter, $14 at Victoria's Secret stores.

Beauty Buzz | Revlon Grow Luscious mascara

One of the most important parts of my beauty routine is mascara. Trust the pageant girl in me, I've tried them all. While my competition is gluing their eyelids shut trying to get false lashes on, I prefer a good 'ol eyelash curler and the perfect tube of mascara.

Lately I've been a devotee of Benefit BADGal Lash. At $19 it's not the cheapest mascara around, but it does just as good a job as the cult-followed DiorShow. I haven't found another formula that adds volume and length like BADgal-- until now.

The Test
Having run out of my bff BADgal, I made a run over to CVS and discovered Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara. Feeling adventurous, and intrugued by the claim that 96% of users saw longer lashes instantly, I decided to try it out.

Ding! Ding! Ding!
Revlon finally has a hit mascara on their hands with Grow Luscious, it's nearly perfection. The big, thick brush is similar to BADgal & DiorShow's and gives you the same lush, long lashes for half the price! After three coats (with no clumps!), I had the look of falsies for less than $10.
